The Shortlist of Time’s “Person of the Year” Has Been Announced, and Here It Is

- Desember 04, 2017

This is certainly going to be interesting.

Normally, I couldn’t care less about Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year” pick. I honestly don’t get the big deal, although I recognize that it’s to honor the news makers of the year.

I get that it’s a big enough honor that President Trump recently brought attention to it by claiming he was told he would “probably” get it, but because he couldn’t be assured that he’d get it, he didn’t want to be bothered with it (he said).

We know how desperately – psychotically – Trump craves attention and adoration. Being named Time’s “Person of the Year” is another feather in his cap. He wouldn’t turn it down, and we’d hear about it for weeks.

Well, Time has revealed their shortlist of nominees, and the winner will be named later this week.

Trump has, it appears, made it onto that shortlist, but who is his competition?

Right off the bat (and this would be so sweet), Robert Mueller.

Four people charged and a hotly debated investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election makes him a natural for the list.

Then there’s Trump’s pal, Chinese President Xi Jinping.

From Time:

The President of China was given a second five-year term this year and was written into the Communist Party’s constitution, achieving new authority and reinforcing his status as the country’s most powerful leader in decades.

For some reason, Colin Kaepernick.

A fair to middling quarterback with no team and no prospects, but he sure knows how to spark protests and bring down the popularity of professional football.

Then there’s Time’s annoying habit of picking “movements” or groups to be “Person of the Year.”

This year, it’s the “Dreamers” and the #MeToo movement.

The “Dreamers” would certainly be keeping in line with the love liberals have of those who give a big middle finger to the sovereignty of our nation or the laws that have been put in place to protect that sovereignty. The #MeToo movement, however, really caught fire.

The movement — which aims to shed light on the prevalence of sexual harassment and assault — took off after bombshell allegations against producer Harvey Weinstein and dozens of other male leaders in Hollywood, media, business and politics, fueling a moment of reckoning about the treatment of women in the workplace.

Truth. Don’t be surprised if #MeToo is your “Person(s) of the Year.”

Just a prediction.

Others on the list include Jeff Bezos (Amazon CEO, became the richest man in the world this year – a good chunk of that fortune from me, personally, I think), Patty Jenkins (director of “Wonder Woman,” and first female to direct a movie that made over $100 million in its opening weekend at the box office), Kim Jong Un (He might kill us all), and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (recently led a crackdown that swept up businessmen and royal family members, alike, in what some considered a ploy to consolidate his power).

Again, I have no dog in this hunt, but I’m sure it makes for bragging rights for somebody.

So sound off.

Who do you see walking away with this thing?
