The point man running interference for the #Resistance in the FBI seems to be deputy director Andrew McCabe. No matter where you go in looking at the FBI’s actions you turn up McCabe and his cronies. We know that McCabe carried a personal grudge against Mike Flynn for supporting a female FBI agent who was suing the FBI over wrongful termination and sex discrimination. We know McCabe is currently under investigation for violating the Hatch Act because he electioneered for his wife, who was running for a Virginia state senate seat with the backing of Hillary Clinton and her long time bag man, Terry McAuliffe, we know that the guy who seems to have put the Trump dossier into play as a “counterintelligence” finding, Peter Strzok, hung out in McCabe’s office discussing politics with his partner in adultery. He was in charge of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails. And on and on.
Last Tuesday, McCabe was scheduled for closed-door testimony with the House Intelligence Committee. He suddenly discovered a “scheduling conflict” when it was revealed that associate deputy attorney general Bruce Ohr had met with one of the principals of Fusion GPS to discuss the Trump dossier AFTER the election:
Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who was reportedly scheduled to testify behind closed doors in front of the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, will instead meet next week due to a “scheduling error,” Department of Justice officials told Fox News.
McCabe’s testimony was likely to, at least in part, focus on Peter Strzok’s role in the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
…
But Fox News was told by those familiar with the matter that the intelligence committee is suspicious of the purported scheduling error. One source said they believe the schedule issue arose after Fox News’ report Monday night on Department of Justice official Bruce Ohr.
…
“McCabe has an Ohr problem,” one congressional source said.
The supposition is that Justice Department officials realized McCabe would face questions about Ohr and he is not prepared to respond.
The committee is prepared to subpoena all Justice Department documents and records related to the scheduling debacle, the source said. The committee is also prepared to subpoena McCabe to compel his testimony later this week.
He was trying to reschedule until sometime in January but Devin Nunes was having none of it and now he’s back on the schedule for next week. But even that is no longer clear. On Thursday, Trey Gowdy was on Fox, he was discussing the investigation and dropped this bombshell.
GOWDY: I’m still trying to figure out why three FBI agents are discussing politics in the deputy director’s office. Because you’re not supposed to discuss politics on federal ground and FBI agents aren’t supposed to engage in politics for Hatch Act reasons. Remember, we were supposed to interview Andy McCabe yesterday on another committee. It was all set up and ready to go, then, at the last minute, they said he cant’ come Tuesday, he’s going to come next week. I’ll be shocked if he comes next week. I’ll be a little bit surprised if he’s still an employee of the FBI this time next week.
Gowdy is not a guy to shoot his mouth off about this kind of thing. McCabe was a Comey crony and I’m sure Wray is trying to build his own team. Having a deputy director who is embroiled in this stuff and who can’t be trusted to carry out his job in a manner that is loyal to Wray is a lot less than optimal. Firing McCabe and Strzok would be clear signs that Wray is serious about cleaning up the partisan cesspool the FBI became under Comey.
