There is a certain segment of political hoodlums on the Internet and in the media who do not disappoint. Regardless of their past positions, their ideological bent, or their general dispositions, these are the people who will react, almost instantly, to anything Donald Trump says with a resounding “NOPE.” Even when he’s correct.
Most recently, we take a look at the protests going on in Iran, and we see a people tired of a tyrannical regime, which has enforced a theocratic regime so harsh that you would need to look back hundreds of years in history to find its equivalent.
Iran is not a place where democracy thrives. It is not a place where the voice of the people is heard. Iran is a place where (best case scenario) priests tell you your options and you go pick them. Worst case? You get a major punishment for daring to even think the wrong option.
People in Iran are protesting. They are trying to get the word out about how terrible life under their oppressive government is. President Trump responded with nothing but support for the Iranian protestors.
Iran, the Number One State of Sponsored Terror with numerous violations of Human Rights occurring on an hourly basis, has now closed down the Internet so that peaceful demonstrators cannot communicate. Not good!

Iran is failing at every level despite the terrible deal made with them by the Obama Administration. The great Iranian people have been repressed for many years. They are hungry for food & for freedom. Along with human rights, the wealth of Iran is being looted. TIME FOR CHANGE!

The backlash was instantaneous.
People have since accused Trump of aggravating the situation, urging violence in the Middle East, and countless other bits of nonsense. But, at the end of the day, he is correct when he says that it is time for change. What Iran’s government is guilty of is, strangely enough, the real-life practice of what breathless liberals truly believe Trump and his pals will enact in America. You see what oppression mixed with religious zealotry and good, old-fashioned tyranny get you when you look at Iran, not Donald Trump’s America.
Yes, Trump has his flaws. Lord knows I’ve called him out on plenty of them – for minor things like his Twitter-binging and major things like his practice of eating steaks well done and with ketchup (I still maintain that is grounds for impeachment) – but, something he says or does is not rendered invalid or bad because he says or does it.
On the contrary, it is an act of redemption when he makes the right call, says the right thing, or pushes the right policy. We can argue the logic behind these actions, but they can be right by conservative standards, even if the actor is not conservative by nature.
But this section of the political commentary world (be they professional commentators, Twitter users, or some other person who pays way too much attention to these types of details) will not budge. Trump says it or does it and it is bad. Charles Cooke of National Review wrote up a marvelous takedown of Washington Post (so-called) conservative columnist Jen Rubin on this very issue.
It’s not just her, however. There are plenty out there who are so anti-Trump they refuse to see any and all positives that can be associated with him.
To those people, I would ask that you stop putting a person above the ideology. Trump doesn’t make something less conservative or less good simply because he takes part in it. As much as his supporters might tell you otherwise, Trump is not the movement, and the movement is not Trump. However, at times there is overlap, and we must celebrate when it occurs and good things happen. To refuse to acknowledge this fact is absurd.
