First Lady Melania Trump had surgery on Monday for a benign kidney problem that will keep her hospitalized for several days. Also on Monday, retired Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) had surgery to treat pancreatic cancer.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who has been at the center of a Beltway controversy over an insensitive comment about his ill health made in a private meeting by a White House staffer that was leaked to the press, posted his ‘prayers and best wishes’ to only one of the two:
“From one cantankerous senator to another, sending my prayers & best wishes to @SenatorReid as he recovers from a successful surgery”

McCain did not send get well wishes to the First Lady. McCain’s snub comes after it was reported he does not want President Donald Trump to attend his funeral, but has invited former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush to attend.
When McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer last summer, President Trump sent get well wishes to McCain on behalf of himself and Melania, “Melania and I send our thoughts and prayers to Senator McCain, Cindy, and their entire family. Get well soon.”

A statement released by the White House earlier on July 19, 2017 read, “Senator John McCain has always been a fighter. Melania and I send our thoughts and prayers to Senator McCain, Cindy, and their entire family. Get well soon.”
McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain has also been silent on Melania Trump but she retweeted her father’s best wishes for Reid.
A statement from Reid’s family on his surgery was posted to Twitter on Monday.

White House aide Kelley Sadler said at a recent private meeting in comments that were leaked to the press about McCain’s opposition to the nomination of Gina Haspel to be CIA Director “It doesn’t matter. He’s dying anyway.” The White House has declined to apologize for Sadler’s remark, Sadler has reportedly apologized privately in a phone call to the Meghan McCain.
Amy Kremer, Women for Trump co-chair, appeared on CNN’s New Day Tuesday morning where she criticized McCain for snubbing Melania, reported Mediaite.
“Yesterday when the news broke about Melania, two minutes before I had a breaking news alert about Harry Reid on my phone. Two minutes later the news alert came about Melania being in the hospital,” Kremer said. “As of this morning right before we went on air, John McCain had tweeted to Harry Reid to get better. Not one tweet to Melania. So the bad blood goes both ways. Don’t pretend that this is only going one way because it’s not.”
(Note to the grammarians, the headline, …”Guess Who John McCain Offered His ‘Prayers and Best Wishes’ To?” should have read “Guess to Whom John McCain Offered His ‘Prayers and Best Wishes'” but it sounds stodgy that way. Sorry.)
