TEDx is facing extreme backlash after they hosted a medical student at the University of Würtzberg in Germany claiming that pedophilia is a natural sexual orientation, “just like heterosexuality.”
The title of Mirjam Heine’s talk was “Why our perception of pedophilia has to change.” In it, she argued that “pedophilia is an unchangeable sexual orientation, just like… heterosexuality.”
During the talk, she asked the audience to put aside their revulsion for pedophiles and listen to a story about a 19-year-old pedophile named Jonas. She argued that as long as they didn’t act on any child sexual abuse, their attraction to children should be accepted and tolerated as involuntary “feelings.”
“Anyone could be born a pedophile,” she told the audience.
The speaker also argued that only 20 to 30 percent of all child molesters are pedophiles, according to “studies.”
“The difference between pedophilia and other sexual orientations is that living out this sexual orientation will end in a disaster,” she said.
Her argument in favor of people being allowed to be pedophiles openly without social shaming was that she believes it would lead to less children being abused.
“For example, they can’t tell their children they can’t go to the beach because children in swimsuits may be there as well,” Heine said. “They can never be completely frank with someone else.”
Heine wildly argued that society is to blame for increasing child sexual abuse by shunning pedos.
“We shouldn’t increase the sufferings of pedophiles by excluding them, by blaming and mocking them,” Heine said. “By doing that, WE increase their isolation and WE increase the chance of child sexual abuse.”
As Life Site News points out, Heine only addressed first hand child abuse and did not address the use of pornography — and the children who are destroyed in the process of producing it.
“Central to Heine’s argument is that pedophiles are not to blame for their feelings and thoughts, only for their actions. She does not, however, address the topic of deliberate fantasizing or the use of pornography. And, at the same time, while arguing that pedophiles cannot change their ‘feelings,’ she encouraged her audience to change their own feelings of revulsion for pedophiles,” Life Site News noted.
“Just like pedophiles, we are not responsible for our feelings,” Heine said. “We do not choose them…but it is our responsibility to…overcome our negative feelings about pedophiles and to treat them with the same respect we treat other people with.”
After the video was posted, it received so much obvious backlash that TED Talks media organization removed it from their YouTube and have been attempting to get other copies removed as well.
“After reviewing the talk, we believe it cites research in ways that are open to serious misinterpretation. This led some viewers to interpret the talk as an argument in favor of an illegal and harmful practice,” Ted Talks said in a press release. “Furthermore, after contacting the organizer to understand why it had been taken down, we learned that the speaker herself requested it be removed from the internet because she had serious concerns about her own safety in its wake.”
