President Trump’s lawyers are preparing written answers to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s questions according to a new report out by CNN.
A sign that Mueller’s witch hunt may be winding down.
Via CNN:
The questions are focused on matters related to the investigation of possible collusion between Trump associates and Russians seeking to meddle in the 2016 election, the sources said. Trump’s lawyers are preparing written responses, in part relying on documents previously provided to the special counsel, the sources said.
One of Trump’s personal attorneys Jay Sekulow told CNN, “We are in continuing discussions with the special counsel and we do not comment on those discussions.”
President Trump’s lawyers have sparred with Mueller’s team for several months over how the President will answer questions, or if he will sit down for an interview with Mueller.
The President has said in many different interviews he would be open to sitting down for an interview with Mueller, however, his legal team has strongly advised against it.
Any sit-down interview with Robert Mueller would be a perjury trap–Trump should avoid it at all costs.
In early September, The New York Times reported Special Counsel Robert Mueller will accept written answers from President Trump regarding questions about whether his campaign ‘colluded with the Russians.’
Mueller is also seeking to question President Trump on so-called ‘obstruction of justice’ however, Mueller and his investigators understood that issues of executive privilege could complicate their pursuit of a presidential interview and did not ask for written responses on that matter, The New York Times said.
Trump’s legal team is also preparing a counter-report to question Mueller’s legitimacy.
Rudy Giuliani, Jay Sekulow and other lawyers are helping put together the report which could exceed 100 pages and be released soon–unless it is derailed by sudden developments in the Mueller witch hunt such as a presidential subpoena.
Sekulow previously said he’s prepared to take Mueller all the way up to the Supreme Court if he were to issue a presidential subpoena, which would be an advantage for the President now that he has cemented a conservative majority with the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.
