There is a fight happening between the Department of Veterans Affairs and former VA Secretary David Shulkin over who approved continuing the incredibly inhumane and unnecessary taxpayer-funded lab experiments on dogs despite action from President Trump and Congress — potentially breaking federal law.
After it was exposed that the McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond was still purchasing puppies for testing, against the mandate from President Trump, they claimed that former VA Secretary David Shulkin had approved it.
He is fighting back and denying their claims.
According to ABC 8News, if Shulkin did not approve the continued testing — the VA may have violated federal law.
In new emails from Shulkin to ABC 8News, he said that in an update meeting on his last day with the VA, March 28, “I did not authorize a formal approval of continued studies.” He also wrote, “I did not approve any new research protocols while I was Secretary.”
“I did not approve any new research protocols while I was Secretary,” Shulkin’s email continued.
However, VA spokesperson Curt Cashour claims that Shulkin gave verbal orders to continue nine studies during this meeting.
As The Gateway Pundit has previously reported, the taxpayer-funded tests that were “approved” include drilling into puppies’ skulls, severing their spinal cords, and forcing them to run on treadmills after giving them heart attacks.
Shulkin has tweeted opposition to new dog research.
Thank You @AMVETSHQ @SGillums for your #leadership on this important issue. As #SecVA and to this day-I remain opposed towards any new #dog research #ScienceOverPolitics @VFWHQ @DAVHQ @legionindc @VAChair @USATODAY https://t.co/FeoAkdject

All dogs are killed after the tests are conducted, despite several organizations that are willing to find them homes, including The Rescue + Freedom Project, who has worked with Lara Trump.
Anthony Bellotti, president of White Coat Waste Project, told Gateway Pundit, “Over the past 18 months, there’s been historic progress toward ending VA’s fiscally reckless and morally repugnant dog testing, and there would’ve been more if not for a few entrenched bureaucrats at the VA. Legislation twice signed by President Trump clearly intended to finally get the VA’s wasteful and cruel dog experimentation off the taxpayer’s back, but the VA appears to be undermining him, Congress and veterans across the country. POTUS opposes socialized medicine, so why would he support socialized dog abuse in VA labs?”
In addition to national veterans groups like AMVETS supporting the campaign to stop VA’s dog abuse, figures including POTUS daughter-in-law Lara Trump, legendary political strategist Roger Stone, and combat-wounded U.S. Marine Corps veteran Johnny “Joey” Jones have spoken out in favor of the effort.
Animal rights activists from both sides of the aisle will be staging a protest at McGuire on Nov. 28.
