These are heady days indeed for Ilhan Omar. Scarcely a news cycle goes by without some mention of the Congresswoman from Minnesota.
Monday’s tweet, followed up by an interview with the Huffington Post, indicates that all of this media attention has left the anti-Semitic lawmaker feeling a bit too full of herself.
“This is a president who has come to power vilifying and demonizing immigrants and refugees. He proudly said we should halt Muslims from entering our country. It’s not a surprise that he finds his biggest nemesis in me,” Omar tweeted.

In March, speaking at a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) banquet, Omar described the 9/11 attacks as “some people did something.” Her remarks triggered widespread condemnation and culminated in President Trump tweeting a powerful video of the attacks alongside Omar’s comment with the caption, “WE WILL NEVER FORGET!”
Omar told the Huffington Post that, “He clearly has a disdain for black women who see themselves as equal to him.”
She added, “Clearly, I am a nightmare ― because he can’t stop really thinking about ways that he can continue to use my identity to marginalize our communities.”
Omar’s recent defense of Venezuelan dictator Nicholas Maduro and her attempts to place blame on the US for the country’s problems has led to criticism from both Vice President Mike Pence and State Secretary Mike Pompeo. Omar told “Democracy Now!” last week:
A lot of the policies that we have put in place has kind of helped lead the devastation in Venezuela and we have sort of set the stage for where we are arriving today.
This particular bullying and the use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really does not help the people of countries like Venezuela and it certainly does not help and is not in the interest of the United States.
Omar sees the great deal of media attention she receives as a reflection of how “important” and “influential” she has become. The reality is that any lawmaker who continually spews similar inflammatory, anti-Semitic, anti-American, defiant vitriol would receive the same attention.
Most Americans find it appalling that someone with such unpatriotic and disrespectful feelings toward our country sits in the U.S. House of Representatives.
President Trump is not afraid of her. Obviously, she is not his biggest nemesis. She is more like a child who deliberately acts out in order to attract negative attention.
When an individual makes shocking statements, people notice. Omar mistakes press attention over her poor behavior with how powerful she is.
Note to Ilhan Omar: You are not important. You are inappropriate, ungrateful and graceless.
